Who Wants To Vlog Like A Boss?

Who Wants To Vlog Like A Boss

Do you vlog? (And if you don’t understand what “vlog” means, the answer is ‘No!’)  Vlogging – or “video blogging” – is a hot-hot-hot means of marketing yourself and your business on social media!

I have a deep, dark secret that I want – no NEED – to share with you. Something I’ve never admitted before…

I’ve been AFRAID to create video. Terrified, in fact. Which is weird, because I LOVE video! YouTube is like a second home to me, and I’m  especially fond of sharing great instructional videos on social media with my friends and clients.

But, as much as I’ve yearned to do so, I’ve never been able to really put myself out there and create my own “Simply Social You” YouTube channel – even though I KNOW how beneficial it could be to my followers and to my brand.

So – what to do, what to do…

Well, when you want to learn how to do something and do it well, the first thing to do is find a person who’s already out there NAILING IT!

For me, that person is Amy Schmittauer!

Amy Schmittauer – SavvySexySocial

Amy Schmittauer - Vlog Like A BossI’ve been a fan of Amy’s YouTube Channel – SavvySexySocial – for years now.  I love her social media knowledge, her presentation and style, and how much incredible value she shares with her fans.

I’ve been wanting to bring a little of that Amy “magic” to MY fans, but I just didn’t know where to start. I had sooo many questions! What should I create content about? How often should I create and post a video? Didn’t I need all sorts of expensive gear to make videos?  How does video content tie in with other social media?

Sooo many questions, AND – one GIANT mental block – What if my videos SUCK?

All of these these “start-up” questions have really derailed me in my efforts.

Amy’s New Book – Vlog Like A Boss!

Vlog Like A BossThis being the case, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of Amy’s new book, Vlog Like A Boss*, since the day she announced she was writing it, and I’m happy to say that the book MORE than delivers!

I can honestly say that VLAB is THE guide for anyone out there who should be building their brand with video (by which I mean YOU)!

She outlines the entire video process simply and succinctly – from identifying the common fears of being on camera (raising my hand here!) to the equipment you need for creating and editing video, and finally to how to really identify with your audience and create video content that will resonate with your followers.

I JUST finished the book, and I’ve already followed her instructions to determine my “Why” for video creation, nailed down my ideal viewer persona, and developed a content plan and topic brainstorming list.

I’ve learned I can start with the gear I’ve already got on hand and know how to use (my phone!).  And I’ve learned that while YES – my first video(s) will likely suck, I HAVE to create and publish them in order to learn the skills I need to master this medium.  And that it’s OK for them to suck! Really!

In fact, in Chapter Five Amy talks about practice. She points out that until you actual PUBLISH a video, you haven’t really practiced. Yes, you’ve recorded video but you haven’t put yourself out there yet, and you HAVE to put yourself out there for it to really count as practice!

“You don’t build a portfolio and a career of over 1,000 videos waiting for conditions to be perfect.” — Amy Schmittauer

Chapter Seven – where she outlines her ‘Authority Video Formula’ is worth the price of the book alone! I’ve watched so many YouTube videos that DON’T follow this formula, and I can’t tell you how many times they’ve lost me within the first 30 seconds after I’ve press “Play.” Amy’s formula – simple, yet time-tested, will help keep that from happening to you!

Amy’s writing style is easy, breezy and conversational, and she shares fun stories from her own life to relate her own journey to video boss-ness. So often when we watch our icons do what they do and do it so well, we forget that they started out just like us – anxious newbies.

Are You Ready To Vlog Like A Boss?

Reading about Amy’s journey helped me realize that I can definitely learn to “vlog like a boss,” and I believe that YOU can do it, too!

So, if you’re ready to get to work on YOUR video presence (and again – you should be!), please hustle on over to Amazon or the bookseller of your choice and grab a copy of Vlog Like A Boss!*
